Re: Chuck Berry dead
One of the great pioneers of rock'n'roll, and so I owe him for colouring my entire life. Starting with pulling sixties Stones, Kinks, Beatles etc records out of my mum's old box of singles, when I was a little kid, and listening to glam on the radio and Top of the Pops. Punk. Then getting more deeply into sixties then fifties stuff. The Stooges and the MC5, the Dolls, etc. At every turn, people wholesale pinching from Chuck Berry.

First thing someone showed me how to play on a guitar? A Chuck Berry riff. First thing anyone ever asked me to show them? The same Chuck Berry riff, about a week later.

Saw him at the London Road club, West Thurrock in the sixties and loved him.
Years later I bought a greatest-hits-type CD and halfway through I realised they all sounded the same...
RIP

Re: Chuck Berry dead
For me he was Mr Rock and Roll a Legend bigger than any other, he influenced probably everyone who saw him as a child and then went into the game of rock n roll or pop music .
I bet if you had a list of all the great singers and bands who took influence from him you could write several books, that is how brilliant and iconic a figure he was in that game he did things no one did before .

I think for Chuck Berry you should not moan about this one man getting a thread about his death, he is worthy of this site a million times more than many others who have died and been mentioned on it,

One of the few artists you can genuinely say who's music will live "forever", Johnny B. Goode was loaded onto the golden disc on voyager 1.

Re: Chuck Berry dead
There's actually a thread on this site dedicated SPECIALLY to people who just want threads about football. Can't work out why people who don't care for non-football related stuff don't stick to it in blissful ignorance of whatever else is going on in the world.

After all, there are plenty of other sites around dedicated to anything but football where these things can be discussed. THEY can always use those for the non-football related stuff they so clearly don't want to know about, and even more clearly want to let the rest of us know they don't want to know about it..

have to agree to an extent and no disrespect to the deaths we have had recently but is becoming a bit Liverpoolonline on WHO these days, anyone dies and up pops a thread on WHO, and some of the people or minor celebs i have never heard of.

Re: Chuck Berry dead
Cant deny his influence on rock music over the years, but as a human being he was a bit of a oddball pervert, like more than a few of his generation.

If ever they have a Savile like enquiry in the US, you can bet Chucks name will be on the list..................

I always thought he could have saved the Beatles, by smashing Yoko Ono to death for her screeching improv bollocks when Chuck Berry played with John Lennon.

He'd have walked free from court with the right Jury.
